CPU Cooler suggestion for Cooler Master HAF X

Hello,

I am a first-time builder, and I am looking for advice on a CPU Cooler to fit inside the Cooler Master HAF X.

I purchased a Noctua NH-D14, but I am having trouble with it fitting inside the case. Specifically, the backplate mount is very thick and does not line up with the side opening on the internal case part of the Cooler Master HAF X and my motherboard ASUS P8Z77. Because the backplate is so thick, the motherboard does not sit completely flush with all of the stand-off screws. Specifically, while the bottom screws are flush, the top right screws of the motherboard are not .

I am hoping for some advice on my options. First, can I buy slightly longer stand-off screws to create more distance between the interior case wall and the motherboard so that the backplate does not get in the way? I believe I am currently using about 6mm stand-off screws (measuring exposed portion only) and 8mm should work. I'd prefer this option as I like my current CPU Cooler, but only if it will not damage the board.

Alternatively, I could purchase a new CPU cooler. I would prefer the cooler to be as quiet as possible because my wife is often nearby while I use the computer, and I'd prefer for her not to feel like she's in an airplane hanger. The major limitations on the cooler would be the case that I currently have and the motherboard/RAM that I have currently installed. For the motherboard/case, I would be wary of any backplate that is too thick because it would cause the same problem. For the RAM in particular, I plan to use all 4 slots, and I don't want a cooler that will obstruct the third/fourth slot. I have listed the major parts below.

Thanks!
