Replacement PSU for Dell XPS420 (UK)

Hello, I am looking to replace the PSU in my Dell XPS 420 (purchased 2008) :)  as I need to replace the graphics card - my old one is dying. I have a newish 260GTX as a replacement but it says min 550W required and needs 2 PCIe power connectors. From what I have read there may an issue with replacing Dell PSU's with standard ATX PSU's. Any advice please - I am in the UK so a UK source would be great.

Thanks :)

You shouldn't have an issue if the PC was purchased new in 2008. Dell stopped using proprietary PSU/Motherboard wiring in their systems around the time of the PIII Pentiums with 20 pin connectors. But check the motherboard connector and PSU connector you have against this pin-out of a proprietary Dell unit for assurance.

The XPS 420 does not use a Dell proprietary power supply, most standard ATX power supplies with either, a 24-pin or 20+4-pin, main motherboard power connector, are compatible and can be installed.

Because the XPS420 have an open back panel, a power supply with or without the on/off switch can be used, you should be able to buy a replacement from most local and online computer stores.

Note: You need a power supply, with five SATA power connectors.
