I have two computers for myself and one other. We both have wireless conenctions via usb recievers. We also have a home made crossover cable. I am on windows 7, and the other is on windows XP pro sp2.

How would i create a situation in where we could share files over LAN and not have them available over our wirelesses. Like.. 2 seperate connections.

if you have a long enough cross over cable you do not need a router. just plug the cable into both of your computers and assign static ip address to your Ethernet port. windows 7 is under network and sharing center - change adapter settings and xp is under network properties. double click your Ethernet port should be local area connection and assign an ipaddy on one comp of 192.168.10.1 and on the second do 192.168.10.2 subnet mast of 255.255.255.0 and no default gateway or dns servers. from there you can enable sharing, setup your accounts and you will be set.
