Problem with my new build

Hey guys, I recently purchased parts from Newegg and attempted to do an external build last night to test the mobo, psu, gpu, and ram to see if it's working before I put it into the case.

And that's where I'm having issues...

Here's the parts:

Motherboard:
ASRock H77 Pro4/MVP LGA 1155 Intel H77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157302

CPU:
Intel Core i3-3220 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 55W Dual-Core
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116775

GPU:
MSI R7850 PE 2GD5/OC Radeon HD 7850 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127688

Memory:
CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model CMX8GX3M2A1333C9
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145315

PSU:
Rosewill Green Series RG530-S12 530W Continuous @40°C, 80 PLUS Certified, Single 12V Rail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182199

Got everything installed to the Mobo, plugged in the PSU to the two pins on the mobo and the one on the GPU. Everything turned on, fans running, LED on the GPU turned on.

But when I plugged it into the monitor, nothing came up. Tried using both the HDMI and DVI, plugged it into my monitor and then my TV and nothing came up. No BIOS, nothing.

Then tried to hook up the HDMI from the mobo's onboard gpu and still nothing. Not on the tv nor the monitor.

So what am I doing wrong? This is my first build so I'm obviously in over my head a little bit, but I watched the Newegg computer build video and followed everything step by step.

Could it be that I have a faulty Motherboard? Is my PSU not strong enough to support the build? Is the RAM not compatible?

I'm at a loss right now and if you guys could help me figure this out so I'm not out $700 with no PC, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks guys.

try pulling in a hard drive and keyboard. you probably need these to pass the self test.

Cpu
RAM 1 stick is fine
HD
keyboard
GPU (if you do not have on board capable)
monitor

Check for bent pins.

Are the MB lights working? if they are check the manual to see if it says what the error may be.

Have a spare comp/parts to rule out/confirm hardware failure?

look at the mb and or mb box for the bios rev of the mb. the mb to boot needs bios 1.3 if it less then that the mb wont post. if it below that see if one of your tech friends can flash the bios with a sb cpu to the highest bios then switch the ib back in.

Tried all of those things in every possible order and nothing happened.

After looking on the AsRock website for the mobo, I found that my RAM isn't compatible. This is probably why I'm having issues. I'm going to order the G.Skill Ripjaw F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL RAM and return the two sticks I have now, so hopefully that fixes the issue.

Quick question though. I assume the mobo can't post without any RAM installed, correct?

I think I understand what you're saying but remember this is my first build so I'm still kind of new at this...

Explain again?

mb needs the code to cpu and ram to post. this code is burnt onto a bios chip. vendors make new code for mb or the cpu change and new code needs to be loaded onto a mb bios chip by flashing it. with some mb you next a bios at a set rev for it to post with the new ib chips. if your new mb has a lable that shows it lower then the one you need. you have to flash the bios to the new bios rev.

Found out the issue.

The original RAM I had actually wasn't incompatible with the board. Turns out the i3 Ivy Bridge processor wasn't compatible while an i5 Ivy Bridge processor WAS compatible... (had a local computer repair shop help me out with that one)

So I tried installing the RAM and CPU into a different motherboard using only one stick of RAM at first. Finally it posted and everything seemed to be running great. Plugged in the second stick of RAM and no post...

Went to a THIRD motherboard and attempted the install. Everything finally worked as planned and I'm writing this email from my new gaming rig.

Thank you all for your help and advice!
