Hello all, :hello:

I'm a long time follower, first time poster.

I am about to begin production of my new gaming/high memory usage system. I have a list from ebuyer of the components I am thinking of putting together.

My worry is the compatibilty of the items i'm choosing as well as if they will be outdated quickly, the motherboard for example has 1155 ports but I see a lot of 1156 products on the market.

The list:

http://www.ebuyer.com/lists/list/59897

I am also open to suggestions on the processor, I am not quite sure which to go for, for the rig. So any advice/input is welcome.

I know I am a novice now as I finished my IT Practitioners course 8 years ago, and hardware has gone mental since.

Last note, a big thank-you to all of you on the forums, you have helped me a lot over the years and have always come here first for research. You really are a great bunch.

Thank-you for your help in advance.

Daz

Yeah, I hadn't chose a CPU, as I wasn't 100% on the motherboard. It's quite interesting, we were both looking at the same Processor, especially with the K series allowing me to overclock it.

Also, Should I get a better fan for the processor, or would the standard cut it do you think? Also 1155/1156 is there a notable difference at all? Just curious.

I really like the motherboard you posted too. Even looks the part.

Cheers,
Daz

You should get the cooler master hyper 212 evo if you're going to overclock the cpu http://www.ebuyer.com/288855-coolermaster-hyper-212-evo-rr-212e-16pk-r1
The 1155 replaced the 1156. The 1155 is newer and better.

I just wrote an essay response with a load of questions in, lets try that again lol.

Motherboard Questions,
With the motherboard you selected (I love), will that still leave room for improvement over the subsequent years?

I don't mind spending more on it, given that it is the heart of the machine, so anything between £100-£250 I would consider realistically. So if there are more suggestions, please feel free to mention them.

Processor looks good to me, I think you made up my mind for me after listing what I was considering.

RAM Questions,

Is this a good set of RAM, I checked reviews online, and most seem good, even if they do look a little odd. I want to be able to tweak them for top performance too.

Power Supply Questions,

I was looking for bad reviews for this, but I honestly think its a great Power Supply, the only thing I have been faced with in the past with them, is the amount of cables from the power unit. I have looked, I am pretty sure that beast can power all of my tower and more.

Hard Drive Questions,

It's only 1TB, but I have looked into the external drives as a lot of what I do requires a good amount of space, to be moved.

The SSD looks good for the operating system though? with room for a better one if windows 8 takes my windows 7 place.

Fan Questions,

Will they be quiet enough, and will it keep it cool? I looked at the water cool system, but with being unfamiliar with it, I chose against it (But it looks amazing!).

General Questions,

This is vanity now. Are there any internal and external lighting or mods that people go to mainly? I would love to set up a little great looking machine.

With that motherboard you'll be able to overclock easy and add a second gtx 660 later. There aren't anymore cpu coming out for 1155 socket the ivy bridge was the last. The 1150 socket and haswell cpu are coming out in like 6-9 months. But you should be fine with the i5 3570k for a while. Corsair vengeance is very good ram. I really like that psu. I've recommended that model many times. The case you picked might not be big enough for the cpu cooler to fit. This is a good case corsair 300r http://www.ebuyer.com/351501-corsair-carbide-300r-case-cc-9011014-ww
It will have more than enough room and will keep everything nice and cool. If you want to be able to see into the case they do have a corsair 300r with a window it costs a little more http://www.ebuyer.com/395040-corsair-carbide-300r-case-with-window-cc-9011017-ww
You could add a few led case fans to make it look better.

I want that for the fan control and vanity. But if it wont fit the Mobo or the PSU I wont order it today.

Cheers again,

So far so good, ive gone ahead with the build, but amended it a bit, wanted to make sure im not gonna shoot myself in the foot compatibility wise.

I've bought the Zalman Z9 Case - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-037-ZA

I got a temporary PSU - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Powercool-700W-Dual-V2-2-Efficiency/dp/B00647K8MI

1x 8GB corsair veng ram (Upgrading to 32gb as time progresses, first arrives tomorrow) - http://www.cbccomputers.com/index.php/corsair-8gb-1x-8gb-ddr3-vengeance.html

sticking with the PSU we discussed previously - http://www.ebuyer.com/349029-intel-core-i5-3570k-3-4ghz-socket-1155-6mb-cache-retail-boxed-processor-bx80637i53570k (Ordering this wednesday)

Also sticking with the Mobo, all/most reviews are top notch for this, thank-you for the recommendation. - http://www.ebuyer.com/398379-asrock-z77-extreme4-socket-1155-vga-dvi-hdmi-7-1-channel-audio-atx-z77-extreme4 (Ordering this Friday)

I am starting to hit stumbling blocks in regards to a few other things, not really discussed in detail previously.

purchases to consider/better alternatives will be below:

GPU:-
I have decided to go crossfire/sli 4 way, I am very new to this technology, from what I understand, all cards need to be the same, with this being said. I could use a relatively low cost GPU (up to £120) so I can order them weekly. Which would you recommend, I am going to triple box display with a custom desk I am currently building. Also please could you give me any info on pros/cons of using the tech.

Storage:-
1 TB Harddrive (Internal SataIII) - http://www.ebuyer.com/319639-seagate-1tb-barracuda-internal-hard-drive-st1000dm003 (open to suggestions)

1 TB removable drive - http://www.ebuyer.com/396739-samsung-1tb-m3-portable-hard-drive-black-hx-m101tcb-g (Open to suggestions)

Solid state drive for windows 7/8 Depending on new reviews, any help here would be appreciated. The other drives will be my storage. This would be just for the OS and any rogue downloads

Network Card/mod:- Need a good strong one with good transfer speed, lots of data runs through the hub.

Items to be ordered over time:-

Cd/DVD/Blue Ray drive
http://www.ebuyer.com/339402-liteon-ihos104-sata-blu-ray-optical-drive-oem-ihos104-06

Heat mods:-

1) http://www.ebuyer.com/264011-corsair-hydro-series-h60-high-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler-cwch60

2) No idea which to get, but i will need 140mmx4 and 120mmx3, all light up, preferably the same color and as quiet as possible,

3) Fan controllers http://www.ebuyer.com/174230-aerocool-touch-2000-fan-controller-en55345 (Something like that. Just wish i could control the other 5 with one)

Sound, really want 5.1 speakers, something like this or better:- http://www.ebuyer.com/200508-xenta-xforce-5-1-surround-sound-speakers-80w-rms-with-wireless-remote-xforce1h

Vision - REALLY want high res monitors, above the norm if possible but at a decent price, its a triple box so I would need 3, n dont wanna spend more on the monitors than i do on the machine itself.

Sorry for the wall of text,

Dazzle
