Hello everyone,

Will anyone reassure me that this build will be a good system, and that a first time builder can handle it? Any thoughts or comments welcome.

You can do way better for that budget, I think I would scrap that whole build - the 550TI does not handle multiple monitors well. Windows 7 Ultimate isn't necessary if you're not using the language packs or XP emulation. The aftermarket fan isn't necessary if you're using a locked CPU. And most Cooler Master PSUs are not trust worthy.

Try this:

With this build - you're not overpaying for the motherboard, you get a GPU that has better multi-display capability,

Thanx for the input. How does that 2.5 SSD fit on a ATX desktop? Is that what one would use for the OS? How scaleable would you consider this build. aluminum case sugestions?

1.) Most non-oem drives come with a 3.5 adapter, in this case the Case 300R supports both 2.5 And 3.5 drives right out of the box.
2.) Yes that is what you would use for the OS and programs. Mass media, video, pictures etc. to the Samsung
3.) What do you mean by scaleable? You can connect two more monitors to the GPU using displayport -> DVI cables (4 in total). The case has ample space as does the PSU. And you can add 8 more GB of ram (16gb is home premium limit, if you want 32 you will want to get professional.

The Corsair 300R supports 2.5" drives without an adapter.

For the OS - it's Home Premium if you use less than 16GB of RAM, Pro if you use more than 16GB of RAM or need the extra networking functions (VM, remote desktop, etc).

This build is very scalable and has tons of room for future expansion.

3.) What do you mean by scaleable? You can connect two more monitors to the GPU using displayport -> DVI cables (4 in total). The case has ample space as does the PSU. And you can add 8 more GB of ram (16gb is home premium limit, if you want 32 you will want to get professional.

The Radeon 7XXX series will support 3 monitors out of the box (2 x DVI, 1 x DP) and that motherboard is rated for 32GB RAM.

Ops your right. I thought the radeon had 2 DP ports (damn small dark ports look the same)....AMD going cheap it seems! Yes the motherboard supports 32 but the windows you chose does not! You need professional to use 32gb of ram!

edit: typo

You guys are great. I can see I will learn a lot hanging out here. All the input has been very helpfull, thank you. I have been keeping my old stuff running, but do'nt see putting anymore money in them. I am ready to build one, though I have not built one from scratch since A+ class two years ago. The hardest part seems to be figuring out what components to buy. One thing for sure I'm going to need a more expensive vidio card than I thought.
