USB Keyboard and mouse separate both go out intermittently

I have a wired keyboard and mouse each with there separate USB plugs and they randomly in tandem or within one or two seconds of each other requiring a reboot or if it happens in post it also requires a reboot. This has happened on multiple sets of hardware and on both linux and window is.. So I think it's my keyboard and mouse but what could cause two different peripherals to go down at the same time
