When I plug my GPU via VGA into my monitor it works fine on 1080p. When I use an HDMI cable though, the picture does not take up the whole screen on 1080p. Is there a way to fix that.

P.S. My monitor is a 16:9 1080p monitor.

Check in your monitor's settings, or in your video card's controlls for something called scaling. It should let you set where the edge of your screen is, stretching the image to where is should be.

If you can't find that look in your monitor's menu for something called over-scan (or similar), that should allow you to 'zoom' in on the image as well.
