Go into Control Panel/Sound/Playback and be sure the card's audio is selected for the default device.

no the solution didn't work....you have any other ideas that could work? I am up for anything to fix this and really don't want to replace the sound card.

When you say "graphics card with built in sound card" are you talking about a discrete sound card you are trying to get to work, or are you talking about integrated (built-in) sound?

The sound card is original one for that computer.....the graphics card itself I had to replace and for some reason the original sound card is not workin and not giving off sound at all....that's what the problem is.

What I mean is, are you trying to get the audio from the graphic card to work... or are you trying to get the audio from a discrete sound card to work... or are you trying to get the motherboard's integrated sound to work?

Let's back up a bit. Is your gfx card connected via HDMI to a display with speakers? What is the make/model of your graphic card? Do you have the motherboard sound 'enabled' or disabled' in BIOS?
