Need help with display freezing

Hey guys im having a problem were my computer screens freezes, when it freezes it usually shows a bunch of strips going down the screen but the last time i just got a black screen, i tried using different cables and connecting my graphics card and what not but nothing seems to work, does any one have an idea of whats going on? help is appreciated
