USB sound cards installed but does not show in playback devices.

Title says it all really. A while ago the audio jack in my laptop broke so I purchased a simple USB to audio stick. Problem is that it was supposed to be plug and play but after installation I couldn't get it to work.
It shows up in Device Manager as 'USB Headphone Set' and also in System Information Sound Devices as a USB Audio Device but never as a Playback Device. I've tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it multiple times, I've tried uninstalling the Realtek audio device to make sure it wasn't some conflict, I've made sure I had files such as usbaudio.sys and usb.inf
. I'm considering just buying a better stick but I just want to be 100% sure that's not something I've overlooked. Any help is really appreciated.
