Any recommendations for a cheap Linux based NAS/backup build?

I'm looking to build a file and backup server. I want something low powered and cheap. Any recommendations for hardware?

Software wise: I plan on running Ubuntu on it. I want it automatically to rsync over SSH with my off-site server for nightly backups. I also want to use it as NAS for my computer here at home. I then intend to use rsnapshot so I always have incremental backups of my data drive.

I've done this before with a linux box, but the computer I was using was a dual xeon server and was costing too much in electricity to run. (It puts out a ton of heat). I'm wanting to setup something similar but that uses less power.

I don't think those are what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for a system that I can run linux on so I can run programs like rsync, ssh and rsnapshot.

It needs to be able to support about 4 hard drives and have a gigabit ethernet port.

The less power it uses the better.

I want to do this as cheaply as possible.
