I have a desktop with Vista connected to a D-Link DI-604 router. I want to set up a home network, so I can use my Dell laptop wirelessly. The network wizard says it cannot configure the detected hardware. It must be done manually. Is this because I need a wireless adapter on my desktop? My current adapter is a RealTek RTL8139/810x & MS Tun Miniport #2

Solution
I presume the RealTek RTL8139/810x is on your desktop and it works fine since it's connected to the router. Why not use a Wi-Fi router instead of the D-Link DI-604? Then you could connect the desktop to the router via Ethernet and the laptop via Wi-Fi.
