Another option might be a 7950. If you're only gaming at 1080p, a 7950 overclocked slightly is more than enough.

a 7950 overclocked is cheaper and probably adequate

but if you want a 7970

i have this one

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=...

runs really cool--very quiet--once i updated the card bios--the original bios had the fan at 50% at idle

the newer bios 33% at idle

currently at 26c at idle

think toms voted the gigabyte 7970s the best all round 7970

with asus 2nd

only minor gripe is a lot of newer cards have a 2nd revision which is voltage locking them

the manufacturers arent advertising this--so this card will only go to 1025mhz from factory of 1000mhz earlier voltage unlocked versions would do 1200-1300mhz--but will overclock the memory no problem to 1600mhz/6400mhz

its still fast at 1000mhz but i just like to overclock things :D
