Upgrading driver on older nvidia gpu

I recently installed a bluray player in a desktop pc. it is an older dell inspiron with an nvidia 9400GT hooked up to a panasonic TCL32C12 720P TV. first off it would not play with the vga connection due to HDCP issues, so i hooked up an HDMI cable and now it plays but the desktop looks crappy. It has an older driver DX 9 but when i download a current driver windows will not allow the installation. I once heard of using another process using a different user but do not remember how. HELP

I'd try reducing sharpness setting on the TV. That usually solves that issue.
