Hello,
I'm upgrading from a Sempron to a AMD athlon 64X2 6000 cpu and DDR2 6400 800MHz super talent memory 4Gb 2x2Gb. on a Emachines/ Gateway W3644 main board . I would like to know what kind of power supply do I need to upgrade to? I do plan to run XP 64bit but may stay with 32 bit.

Welcome to the forums.. The operating system doesn't affect the power consumption but i would recommend going with the 64Bit because if you use 32 bits it wont utilize the 4gb perfectly. If you plan on adding a graphics card to that computer (Or even if you dont) i suggest you go for the one of the cheapest yet greatest psu's.. The corsair builder 430w

Thanks .
I have recently discovered that windows no longer updates or supports XP home edition in 64 Bit , only 32 bit so because of that I have no other choice , its 32 bit for this PC. I already bought the 2x2GB memory cards so thats what I'm useing. I also bought a Ultra 500watt power supply, its says on the box that it supports Pentium 4 and AMD CPU's . I guess thats all I'll be doing with this PC upgrade.
