4100 or 6100

Having a hard time deciding on the FX4100 or the 6100...price difference is only 10 bucks, but I am looking for overall gaming performance...and ideas on this? Will be building with the ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX AM3+ AMD 760G SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard, 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-16GBXL, and putting my current video card which is 1gb AMD RADEAON HD6770.

  1. Also, is there a board that is cheaper that will get the job done, but is still reliable? I have never used ARock, I am usually a ASUS or Gigabyte man but the boards in the 50-80$ have gotten bad reviews.
  2. FX-6100, if the price difference over the 4100 is only $10, is easily the better deal. IDK about going far below $100ish for a very good board.
  3. Do not get both.bull dozer cpu sucks.get piledriver cpu i.e fx 6300,8320,8350.
  4. It depends on pricing. Any CPU can be great at the right price. If OP is already strapped for cash to get a 6100, then the 6300 might not be a viable option.
  5. Or get amd phenom 965 be.
  6. I'd take the 6100 over the 965 BE, but that's me. Two more cores and better overclocking headroom as well as greater power efficiency (it may be poor, but its better than Phenom II) sway me enough for it.
  7. 6 core it is. Thoughts on the board that I mentioned?

6 core doesnot matter.do not judge cpu by specs

see here - i3 and Phenom II X4 955 easily beats fx 6100 in gaming

"Benchmarks are most important than specs"

if you want amd cpu then go with fx 6300 and phenom 965 be.
  9. Although I don't see a difference spec wise, benchmarks don't lie. And I can get the 6300 for 10$ more. Guess 6300 is now a go! Thanks all for the help
