I am looking to update my old HTPC, basically a new build, in which the PSU, DVD drive will be reused. (PSU was replaced with a 500W modular unit a few months ago when the old one failed)
Now the old system is a socket 939 Athlon 64 x2 (I think a 3600+ but not sure), 2GB ram, an ATI 3870 video card and a hauppage tv tuner card i use with windows media center and a 240gb or so HD. All of this is running Vista and hooked up to a 720p 32inch tv. Its rather long in the tooth.
I wont be doing much gaming on this pc as I have an intel i52500 with ati 6870 to game on. But occasionally i would like to play Dark Souls or other steam game that supports xbox controller from the couch on this pc. This PC will be used for Netflix, Amazon video, Windows media center recording from anthenna, streaming ripped DVD and music from a synology 212j NAS/media server, skype and some music cd making (for the car), eventually adding a bd drive too.
Anyway I was looking to get the following for this build.
AMD A8 3870k cpu $98.99
AS Rock MB-A75MHVS FM1 mobo $64.99
8GB Corsair vengence 1600mhz memory $42.99
Windows 7 OEM 91.05
silverstone Tek micro ATX case PS07B 78.99
I will one 1TB HD from the gaming pc to put into this for C drive as the old one is an IDE I believe.
I also have a h212 cooler laying around to use on this hence the new case to accomodate it (Tight fit but I read it fits)
For a total of 377.01 Shipping(prime) included from Amazon.
I'm looking at $400 max and included Win 7 since im tired of Vista on the htpc.
I havent priced any intel builds for this as I am really not that knowledgable on their lower end offerings.
Will this be good for htpc and light and rare gaming or is there a better build avaiable (as in a cpu/discrete graphics) that someone could recommend?
