Simple question.
I want to know the best 2, 3 or 4 XP1600+ core stepping codes, rated from best down.
I know AGOIA is good, but is there betta?

I want a XP1600+ that can do 166FSB (1700Mhz) with the minimum of fuss (no unlocking), the lowest voltage (1.85v or lower desirable) and just 'standard' cooling (MCX-462 + 2000rpm panaflo quiet fan)

Cheers.

I've heard that the AROIA stepping is a little better than the AGOIA. I have an AGOIA 1600+ at 1800MHz, 1.775V (I never tried a lower voltage), 171FSB (PC2100 Memory maxes out around 173MHz). I might unlock it someday, but I don't know if it's worth the hassle. Not bad for a $52 processor that I bought 5 months ago.

The AIUGA stepping for the 1700+ Tbred is supposed to be good too, and runs at a lower voltage. Another fairly good 1700+ Tbred stepping is the AIRGA
but for the Palomino, I'd say:
1) AROIA
2) AGOIA
for the Tbred 1700+
1) AIUGA
2) AIRGA
**Note, I could be wrong

Most interesting.
Im not really concerned about the tbreds as they are damn rare downunder, especially the XP1700+'s.

I did a little typo too, 166fsb with the XP1600+ gives 1700Mhz, not 1900 as i initially stated. bit of math error there... I blame flat batteries in my calculator LOL.

Well its good too know anyway... Both the AROIA and the AGOIA can do 1700& 166fsb easy, which is what i want. 8K3A+ has the 1/5 multiplier and i dunno if i can wait for the barton hehe. Mymobo is crying out for 166fsb lol.
plus the XP1600+ is so cheap hehe.

I just looked at the CPU database at www.overclockers.com. The older AGOGA stepping seems to do quite well, so add it to your list.

99% is great, unless you are talking about system stability

Good call. The barton will be too expensive when it's released anyway! Doesn't that board have a 1/6 divider too?? 10.5 x 200MHzFSB!! wouldn't that be nice for a $50-$60 proc. I wanted that board, but all the places I order from were sold out at the time.

no. The board is just a KT333 so its only got the 1/5 divider for 166fsb operation.

Anyway, with the ram timings i use i couldnt run my ram at 200Mhz... They are just way too hard.
166FSB synchronous is just fine for me... and i know it works becauze ive done it in the past with a now defunct tbird 1200C (factory unlocked)

I will be getting a barton eventually... I just want something a bit faster than this poor overclockable XP1800+. i can barely squeeze 133mhz out of it... at least it runs at stock speeds with a low voltage (1.65v)
