I-3 2120 VS AMD FX-6300

Solution

No, it's 6 integer cores with 3 Flex Floating Point Units...

It's nothing like Intel architecture...not even in the same hemisphere of the globe for that matter. You're way off base...it's a true 6 core modular architecture.

@jerodpaul:

The 6300 is a FAR better solution than the i3.

The I3 - No one needs 3 cores + 6 Threads Or In AMD Terms, a six core, for minor gaming, unless your planning to do a lot of other stuff, like having 100 tabs open in Firefox or running a virtual machine.

An AMD APU, such as the A4 or A6 would do you fine, if the i3 is too expensive.

AMD FX-6300 definitely has 6 cores. Just did some testing yesterday, see my other thread.

6 half cores, its a triple core with three extra hardware threads, unlike the phenom II X6s, and no one needs more then 2 or 4 cores, most games run better on a i3, FX 4300 or i5 then on the higher up FX series, like the 6 or 8 core versions

hardware threads? LOL. You can't have a "hardware" thread without hardware (i.e. core) to run it on).

I've never seen a benchmark showing the 4300 or i3 beating the 6300 and 8300 series.

Pretty liberal use of the word "need". Does anyone "need" more than a playstation to play games?

I personally would go fx over i3, but if its just minecraft and other small gaming an AMD A10-5800k is amazing at minecraft and can actually play BF3 at the lowest settings, just get 1866 or 2133 as the igpu uses the RAM and runs better with faster ram

I just recently built a gaming computer using the fx-6300 and it is a good processor. It runs solid for all the games I play. It is cheap around $130 on Amazon, get a good motherboard to go along with it, I got the Asus 990fx Sabertooth R2.0, but it was also $179. Intel is more expensive, but performs a little better at gaming. Minecraft and WoW are two different animals so do some research on google to find the best chip for what you are wanting to play. I mostly play war thunder and a little Battlefield 3, the fx-6300 runs both these games well.
