Howdy,

Just looking for a set of knowledgeable eyes to look over and make sure I'm not making any glaring mistakes. Ram is probably excessive but I like switching between things quickly, and something about it has to be extravagant :p

Approximate Purchase Date: Next Three Days

Budget Range: $1000 (give or take 100)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Movies

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Parts to Upgrade:
Reusing old Ultra Case (Aluminus mid-tower) and PSU - ULT-X2550P
(Would take suggestions for a case with convincingly good features/setup, the old one is a little beat up but functional)

Reusing Blu-Ray LG-GGC-H20L
Reusing 500 and 250 GB WD 3.0 Gb/s Sata HD

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg

Location: Orlando, FL

Parts Preferences: Reliability is king

Overclocking: Yes (but not right away)

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe (down the road if needed)

Your Monitor Resolution: Like to upgrade to 1920x1200

Additional Comments: Skyrim, Sims, Civ 5, Assassin's Creed, Crysis 2

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I have a job now, old clunker was turning 6.

Current Wish List:
SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC256B/WW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
ASUS P8Z77-V
HIS H785F2G2M Radeon HD 7850 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K
G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBZL
Acer S231HLbid Black 23" 5ms HDMI LED-Backlight LCD monitor

I'm surprised an Ultra case has lasted that long.

Good choices to start with but I think I would just get a new case if I were you. On a $1K build I'd skip the SSD for now unless you really want one and invest more in the GPU. I highly doubt that PSU would translate well over into a new build - I've used old PSUs on new hardware only to run into disaster.

Try something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($189.99 @ Microcenter)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U9B SE2 37.9 CFM CPU Cooler ($59.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($134.98 @ NCIX US)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Crucial M4 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($94.99 @ Microcenter)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB Video Card ($307.86 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair 300R ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 750W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($79.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($15.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $1003.77
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

The case is functional, I'll leave it at that.
I've got my heart set on the SSD, life is too short for load times.
PSU will be replaced because I would hate to fry it, just wish I knew for sure it isn't up to it.
Good catch with the video card, I think the 7950 was the one I had in mind.

Thanks for the suggestions!
