A friends computer was recently screwed by a power surge. From what i can determine, the cd drive, motherboard, power supply, and hard drive are toast. Probably ram and floppy drive too.. didn't test. Is it at all possible to retrieve the data off a power-dead hard drive? Is it unrealistic to think a technician would be able to transplant the physical platters into another drive and get the data back? it's somewhat important information.
Thanks for any help,
Oh yeah, you can do it if you know how, but other then that you will have to pay someone a lot of money to do it ...
The PCB on the drive is probably the only problem. As long as you can find the exact same (EXACT) drive you can use the board off of it ... No hard drive manufacture will help you with this task ...
