Wireless network available but computer will not connect

I have just moved apartments and am trying to connect to the internet. I have spoken with the wireless provider and they were no help. The problem is that I can see the network I need to connect to and I am putting in the correct network key but it just won't let me connect to it. There are three other computers using the wireless so it isn't the modem... and my iPhone is working on it. I am wondering if it has something to do with the IP... I do not really understand any computer stuff but I am desperate for this to be fixed because I am in the middle of mid-terms. Anyone have any suggestions on what steps I could take? In dummy speak please...

do you know the ssid and the pass phrase you will need to enter then to connect

Yes all of that is correct. I think it might be that my computer isn't communcating with the netgear box which is really old. We are getting a new one so hopefully that will fix it...
