Fx 8350, Gigabyte/ASUS 970 chipset motherboard, 16-32gb of ram. Noticed that, that opteron is from 2007, so an fx 8 core will prob beat it lol

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231559 - 32gb RAM

$100 mobo, $190 cpu, $160 RAM = $450

If u want to go intel and get towards ur $1000 budget

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116492 - i7 $570
Same Ram as b4
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131800 - ASUS MB $320

Intel 6 core with 12core HT, 32gb ram, lga 2011 motherboard $1050 lol

Unless ur interested in another server cpu

I bet u that an i7 3770k would meet ur needs, and the 3930k 12 HT is overkill, for what ur doing unless u are doing more serious editing rendering, and which i assume u do from the current dual cpu setup u have, but the above i5 wouldnt be the best, would go more i7 or 8350 if not dual cpu server, or i7 extreme

Great advise guys thanks. Is there any way to get either the I73930K or the FX-8350 on a dual cpu board? if so, which options are out there? Doesn't matter if it is a server board, that's what I've been using anyway. thanks!

Well if the 3930k works he would b over budget on just the two cpus lol but there us the 4c, 8t 3820 on lga 2011, if he wants dual cpu for $320 a piece if they work, but if not then a single i7 3770k with high amounts of ram would work at least it should lol

thats 4-physical cores+ht4cores for 3820. even a 3570k @ 4.8 would be great for editing.

wow those xeons are expensive. I think I'll stick to one cpu for now. when comparing between I73930K, the FX-8350 or the phenom II 6... I see each has some advantages over teh other. IN regards to rendering power which would be the best bet? ...and why...?

btw: I am currently rendering in anoher machine with a phenom II x6 1090T and it works great...but I need to know which of the previous three mentioned would be better.

the 3930k is the fastest but of course cost at 540$ more than 2.1times the price of a amd 8350 8core processor that would be excellent for video editing. and image and photo manipulation.

id say 8350 if ur budgets restraint.since the 3930k eats up half ur budget

I am concerned about what I read about the 8350's low performance on single core processes though... rendering tasks such as reading from 3D file are made with single core.... the 8 cores will be awesome I am sure for the rendering itself but then the bottleneck becomes the low performance on single core tasks. Now don't get me wrong..it is def. better than my current setup (5 years old) but it is a concern. I think I'll up the budget just a bit and go for the intel. I've had AMD for the last ten years. I'll give Intel a shot this time, see what happens.

So here's what I am buying:

CPU - 3930K (~$570)
Mobo - ASUS P9X79 PRO LGA 2011 (~$315)
RAM - G.SKILL Ares Series 32GB DDR3 1600 (~$160)
Cooler - CORSAIR Hydro Series H100 (~$100)

TOTAL $1,145

Thank you both for your input!
