Upgrade from 8150 to 8350
Last response: in CPUs
Hello, I have a HP computer and I want to upgrade my processor from an FX-8150 to a FX-8350. I know that the 8150 is bulldozer and the 8350 is a piledriver. Here is my computer specs http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03... Is it possible for me to upgrade or no? If no what will I have to do to do so. Thanks

Yes the socket is AM3+ so physically the CPU will fit in the socket but that is only one part of it. The CPU has to also be supported by the BIOS. According to that list Piledriver is not supported on that motherboards BIOS. I would call HP's customer support and ask them. If it does support Piledriver be sure to ask if you need to update the BIOS.
The motherboard is a gigabyte 970 board thats obviously built for hp prebuilts, could check with them - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03...
Did u do the windows hotfixes for the fx line?
I mean ARMA II should not be stressing the 8150, but its prob only optimized for a dual core so the single threaded performance may be whats hindering ur performance, i bet in a more cpu intense game u wouldnt see so much lag
If u want to upgrade get a cheap 970 board and a new case, i mean u alrdy upgraded the gpu and assuming the psu as well, and basically any non prebuilt motherboard is better than what u got

Hot fixes? And even if i got a new mobo and case the HP *** ships with an OEM version of windows, which would not work with the new mobo. HP just screws you over in every way....It's not just HP it's pretty much all OEM's. This is an enthuist website and thats why most here avoid OEMs like a plauge.
If you want to really do what you want to do than yes. At that point though you are practically doing a new build. How old is the HP, can you return it and get your money back? If not I would sell it and start over again since as I said the major parts you want to replace is practically a new computer anyway.
sell the 8150 on craigslist once u get a 8350, new motherboard a 780g would work, but would go for a asus or gigabyte 970 for $95-100, and a case of ur choice, and reuse ur ram, psu, gpu done deal.
Google Win7 product key finder or something like that, find a free one that seems good, dont remember which ones are good, but ive used one b4 that worked great that was free

But guessing since u replaced the stock 7570 with a 660 ti, and summing the 300watt psu with something to handle the 660ti, u either dont have the old psu and gpu or cant return the pc, but as rds said ud be getting a new motherboard and cpu so could still go intel or get the 8350
Also i wouldnt look at a 8150 with a 660 ti as a bad pc, id say the motherboard is as its hp but if u could overclock which u cant lol ud prob see better performance in games like ARMA II or games that like less cores
But what im thinking is that HP is just a bunch of lying money loving bitches.
This model is a "higher end" hp model than mine: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=ca&lc=en...
