Disregard everything below, I downloaded the latest 12.7 beta drivers from AMD's website and everything works beautifully now. Now, I present to you a much simpler question: here it says 8.981.2.0, whereas on the AMD website I downloaded the 12.7 driver. Please help a computer noob understand why they are different. Thanks.
I recently built a new computer and have an msi r7850 twin frozr ii. I was having no problems playing skyrim until a couple days ago, when at the main menu the screen would flash black a couple times, then go completely black, or the whole screen would have gray vertical stripes, and I would have to hard restart. The music still played in the background, no looping.
SOMETIMES I can alt-tab out of the black screen, at which point I open task manager and it says Skyrim is not responding, and I can close it. There is also a little message that says the display driver has stopped working and has recovered (not my pic, but it looks like this) that pops up.
After uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, nothing changed. I reinstallled windows, but the problem came back after a couple hours.
At first, the game would work if I played in a window or at a resolution less than 1920x1080, but now even those cause problems. When I ran it in a window, the screen went white/black striped for 10 seconds, came back, went dark grey striped, and then the computer shut off and restarted. Setting every setting to the lowest option when I play does not help. All mods are off.
This only happens in Skyrim, I can play Borderlands (maxed settings, all options on, etc) with no issues. The temperature of the GPU remains <50, usually around 40-45. Same with the processor.
