Do you want to use it for gaming or just browsing the net?

I just bought a Samsung 763MB from best buy for $99 and I have to say it's great. If you're looking for max res, i'm not sure what you're doing in the 17 inch market, but ok.

The 1280x1024 on the Samsung is definitely usable, but i prefer 1024x768, so i can't give you an accurate review of the refresh rate at that res.

I've played Starlancer, Half-life (CS and NS), Rise of Nations, GBA/SNES/N64/Genesis emulators, and I have yet to find a game that looks anything but incredible.

Although i got mine for 99 bucks, i think the average price is around 150.

Oh and the 765MB only does 68 Hz at 1600, so i would definitely recommend a larger monitor if you want that resolution.

Oh and the 763 has no moire that i can see.

Hope this helps.

I just got my refurbished Samsung SyncMaster 763mb and it works great. I have it set at 1024x768 at 85Hz and the image quality looks amazing. Nothing like all the other monitors I used to have, and for only $35 USD, it was a bargain.

Hey jaimegmr, where'd you get the samsung?

I bought a non working syncmaster 763mb at a thrift shop for $20. You can then send it to Samsung and get a refurbished monitor for the cost of shipping (in my case it was $15, but can go as high as $30 or more depending on where you have to return the monitor to)

Thanks for the tip - it's a very smart, heads-up idea. You must have lucked out - to find an up-to-date monitor in the leftover bin.
