E3-1225 V2 or 3770

Hey Dudes,

Just wondering, for my build. Which CPU, in your opinion will be best. I'm not planning to overclock or anything.

The Xeon E3-1225 V2
Or the i7 3770

I'm open to suggestions.

It's going to be used for a lot of gaming, occasional video rendering and the usual document typing, music playing, video watching, website programming and internet browsing...

Thanks!

  1. I think you need some very good reasons for a server processor - and a mobo that supports XEONs. The only thing i can think of is the ecc ram support.
  2. Well for a start, I have a Sabertooth Z77 board, that supports a Xeon. The Xeon is far more cheaper from my supplier than a 3770
  3. That's because it has no hyper threading and lower frequency.

It does as hyper threading it just has a slightly lower frequency.

I'm planning to upgrade my i3 2100 to a Xeon E3-1230 V2 as it is pretty much the i7 3770 without the graphical die. I can get the Xeon E3-1230 V2 for around $10 more than an i5 3570k and since i'm not overclocking why would I choose an i5/i7 over the Xeon?

(It won't let me edit my message...)
  6. If you want a xeon cpu, get the Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2, it's supported in most motherboard, like the b75,h77 or z77.
That cpu is the i7-3770 without the on die gpu, if you don't need the on die gpu, get the xeon, also it's cheaper.
