6400+, but why not go with something newer and better, like an i3-3220?

When comparing AMD Athlon CPU's, just go with the higher number.
The higher the number the faster the CPU (of the same family).
But still both of these CPU's are very old and not worth more than 40 dolars.

Are you building a new computer or upgrading an old one? Please give more details.

Obviously the 6400+ is faster, but I bet there are other options.

Wow, with $450 and you already have a 550Ti? Don't even look at an Athlon 6400! That's like 100 years old in computer years!

You could so something like this:

fx-6300 is about 3-4x as fast as the Athlon 6400+.
