A question by a simpleton re HP Pavilion speaker volume

My speaker volume goes to 0 whatever I do (forcing it up to max through the control panel or the speaker (mixer) ikon). It gradually returns to 0 in a few seconds.

First off, you are not a simpleton. Computers are very complex machines which even have me scratching my head sometimes, and I've been messing with computers for 20 years!
