How to fix the problem: catalyst control centre:Host application has stopped wor

new build , windows 7 ,64 bit. old Asus HD 4870 video with DVI/ HDMI adaptor . New asus VE278 monitor. with 3m HDMI to HDMI cable.

So:

1. why does it keep saying Catalyst control centre:Host application has stopped working
2. Why does it lose a cm all around when displaying
