Hi !

What I want is a rig for playing Civ 5 and diablo and maybe battlefield 3. My main goal is to havesomething the less expensive it can be, that's why i'm going on AMD. I don't have a monitor yet so i don't know what the resolution will be.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AMD970/SB950 ATX AM3+

LG GH24NS90 24X SATA Internal DVD Writer Burner

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64BIT SP1 French DVD OEM

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6GB/S 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM

Cooler Master HAF 912 Black Mid Tower ATX

XFX 550W PRO550W Core Edition Single Rail

G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Memory

Gigabyte Radeon HD 7770 OC 1050MHZ 1GB 4.5GHZ

Thanks a lot for your help !

I'll leave the 7850 out for now. If the 7770 isn't satisfying i can change it in a year or two. My guess is that psu will support higher end gpu, i'm I wrong ? Of course I can always get better, someone could tell me that instead of the AMd i could pay more to get the I5....it's a never ending story ! My goal was paying 600, with my build i'm almost on that price !

And about the cpu, is it enough for gaming ?

And about the monitors what specs should I be looking at ?

The XFX 550W is plenty for even the higher end cards. Wouldn't try to dual Crossfire/SLI on it though.
That CPU is enough for gaming. Despite its age, the Phenom II x4 965 is still a decent performer.

You want to be looking for a 1920x1080/1200 resolution, 5ms or less response time, LED backlighting and preferably VESA mounting. If you had a bit more cash (OK, a lot more), a 120hz monitor would also be good as it can display an FPS up to 120 and 3D images.
The size of the monitor comes down to your budget and preference.

After lookig a bit it semme that for 10$ more I can get :

I3 3220

and

Gigabyte b75 mobo.

What's the best between those two ? At first look I think that the Intel setup allow more space for an upgrade.

Any thought on taht b75 mobo ?

Thanks once again !

Hey I just wanted to mention that Canada Computers is a great place to get parts for pretty good prices, NCIX as well. I know they've got several locations in the West Island area and Laval if you're around the island. The Canada Computers on St Antoine near the autoroute 15 is a nice retail location!!

Regarding the monitor. Look for an IPS screen, they have better viewing angles and colour production. They are fantastic. I just picked up a 23" ASUS from Canada Computers for $209.99 reg priced $279.99. I love my new display, it's the most vivid screen I've ever used! You can buy TN screens for almost half the price but your image quality will suffer.
