Add SSD to Intel 775 Socket HP & Dell

I would like to speed things up on both HP/Compaq and Dell pc's that are 775 socket processor/motherboards. They are both SATA 2...I would like to add an SSD...will a 6gb SATA3 card added to these boards work? Will the Bios allow 6gb, or just the 3gb that SATA 2 runs at? I guess what I'm getting to...can I get away just adding a card, or do I need to upgrade the motherboards? Any and all info welcomed...before I spend $$

  1. you will only get 3Gb/s but it should still be good enough. You don't need to buy the best of the best SSDs tho.
