Strange problem with my power supply

My old 750w PSU stopped working 2 months ago. I thought it overheated and waited a whole day before switching it back on again, but the computer didn't boot. So I replaced it with a 820w which died last night. The weird thing is: when I plugged in my old 750w, it worked. what do you think might have caused it to stop working 2 months ago? how did it come back to life?

Good probability that a connection (cpu or mobo) somehow loosened,
and when you reinstalled it the connections were seated tightly.

I tested the old psu on another computer back then and it didn't work, so I doubt it was the connection. I have a feeling it's the same issue that caused my 820W to stop working

i agree, that is prob the situation. I don't know what the real problem is.
it could be a short on the mobo or something different.

I suggest you close this thread and try posting this again
with slightly different title & hope some of the
system experts see it and advise.

I had this on an old machine replaced the power supply and it still would't boot looked around and one of the ribbon cables was shorting out to the case going around a sharp bend once I fixed that both power supplies worked
