Rename printer

I am looking for a way to script renaming printers on Windows 7. We need to shorten the printer name for so of our applications to be able to print to them.

I think that may be possible, but it may create more work to make the script work than to actually do the change manually.

Are these printers on a domain, or are they shared via USB through the computer?

I wouldn't trust a script to rename printers for applications IMO.
