GTX 680 OR 6GB Toxic 7970?

Hey, I've been working on picking the best parts for my PC for some time now and am having trouble of which graphics card/s would best suit my needs. I am into games such as BF3 and ARMA II and am playing on only 1 screen but I have a second monitor so I can have youtube or editing/recording software or something running ect, (So i can use my computer whilst gaming really.) I've had 2 graphics cards in mind now, the toxic and the 680 (Sli) The sapphire toxic from what I hear is excellent for running multiple monitors but when it comes to gaming on a single monitor the 680's are better. Can someone please help me choose (or suggest a graphics card that would be better than both of these) which would be better for my specific setup. He are my current specs without a graphics card included. Also I dont really want to overclock so I probably wont, If that changes the results at all.

A GTX 680 would be your best bet. You're playing on a single monitor, so the extra 6GB of vram on the toxic will be no use.

They are on a par, NV better at lower res, AMD better at higher res.

Go with the one that cheaper IMO....

I will elaborate it for u..

Go with 680 they are better for your single setup monitor........

It will not use the 6 gig mem toxic had to offer, it will different story if u using multi monitor setup.. (so NV is better at lower res, AMD at bigger res where the bigger mem helps and AMD eye infinity is better than NV one)

the different of fps was within margin of error and human eyes will not notice it...... (That why i said it's a par, only left is the price. If budget no problems than it back to personal preferences)

The Toxic is definitely faster than the GTX 680... it's currently the fastest single GPU card around, by a decent amount:
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/1546/pg1/sapphire...

That said, it's an absolutely awful value at $700.

Are you planning on getting two graphics cards? If you can afford two Toxic cards, it's the best setup available right now, at any resolution, bar none.

GTX 680 SLI is a better value, though (though still not good). The only "good" super high end value you can get is probably GTX 670 SLI at ~$800.

overall the Toxic is faster but like any other comparison, you can always find a winner for the underdog...
main games = GTX 680

Hes asking 680's in SLI not about one 680 hes asking should he get x2 680's or one Toxic in that case 680's SLI is the way to go IMO

@OP
You said "680 SLI" definitely the SLI setup is greater than the single Toxic by a greater margin.

6GB is not even a scheme to discuss.

A single GTX 680 vs a single HD 7970, both perform greatly depending on the game but AMDs perform better @ 2560x and high up resolutions if you ever thought about upgrading your monitor.

Especially if you get a better mobo and two non-reference 680's to SLI will be a beast of a build! Also would violently murder anything you throw at you.

What about GTX 690 (single) VS Toxic?

If you're just going to play games and want the fastest card than the GTX 690 is currently the best (if you can find one in stock).

If you're looking for the best single GPU card than those are the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition cards and other hot cards such as the Toxic series from Sapphire.

But if you want to do anything else like use OpenCL applications, transcoding, WPA/WEP Cracking, RAR Cracking, Bitcoin Mining etc than it really is no contest. Anything with a Tahiti XT core in it will crush the competition by a long shot (7970).

But I know that's for us Cypher Nerds not the Gaming crowd... but aren't you the least bit curious?

It's very simple, go Nvidia with the monitor you chose. That is a 3D Vision 2 monitor, it will not work with AMD in HD3D (at least without a hack and will not get the lightboost).

Now, if you want to play games in 3D Vision 2 and max out the settings, or achieve near 120 FPS for the 120hz monitor in the most demanding games, I might suggest going with 670's in SLI, otherwise a single 680 will be enough.

Edit: even if you don't plan to use 3D, I'd not take that option away, because after you experience it, you may not want to go back to standard 2D mode.

If he's legitimately on the fence and trying to decide, there is no good reason to go AMD with that monitor. That leaves, a 670/680, 670/680 SLI or 690. Considering his setup, and his high budget, I'd highly recommend 670's in SLI.

I am legitimatly on the fence, I made this new thread because the other was verifying my build really and I wanted to creat a thread specifically about graphics card under the graphics section because I wanted toleave the other 1 open about all the components not jus graphics cards and it was starting to get full of graphics talk. Also I figured any other computer pros who want to help people with graphics would search the graphics section. Sorry for multi threads but this is a lot of money for me to pay and I wanna make sure everything is perfect

Doing well thus far thanks for asking

I've taken out the GTS 450 and replaced it with two Radeon HD 5850s as I have come to find PhysX to be useless. So I've got two 7970s and two 5850s. When I launch OpenCL apps they combine into one large parallel processing beast.

I've been thinking about replacing the 5850s with 7950s instead. Two Gigabyte Windforce models. With the $800/mth I make right now from mining I could buy some nice Graphics cards to add to the current lot. Fun times I say.

Like I said, your monitor does not support AMD HD3D, it is made for Nvidia 3D Vision 2. Forget about the Toxic, unless you bitcoin or something that requires opencl.

dude that's just sic....
what about the third 7970 in tri-fire or not.?
new case as well now.?
I hear the 'Giggle-Bytes' Windforce can be buggy so diligent searching on that, but I know you will..
with all these spare parts you have another rig for some 24/7 mining/ Folding...
(if you wish of course..)

impressive..

yes you can join a pool so you get shares if the pool gets the new 50bc. but it eats a lot of watts so maybe he is making 800 per month but pays 100 per month for electricity as the card array is running 24/7 :)

i mean 4*300W(2*5850,2*7950)*24*30=864kW*0,2eur=174eur

Even though his monitor will not work in 3D with it? He has a Nvidia 3D Vision 2 monitor.

If it's not bought, maybe he can buy a different one, but for 3D, what he has is probably the best there is.

ok is 2x 680 SLI a good way to go or is it a super waste of money, If its 10+FPS better than 670s SLI than its worth the extra money in my opinion. I know you gave me the benchmarks but I prefer verifying all my things with people over statistics because, well I dunno :p  I Don't always trust em and people know more about it for my specific needs and other specs of my comp.

in my country is 670 for 400eur, 680 500eur and 690 950-1000 eur, so 2x 670 that equals nearly 690/680sli, saves you 150-200 euro. now i am personally gonna go for 690
