I have a g33m02 motherboard that is unfortunately only ddr2. I have a 220 watt power supply and:

1 * PCI Express x16 slot
1 * PCI Express x1 slot
2 * PCI Slot

I want to upgrade my graphics card to one with 512mb of dedicated RAM and an all around better card. I currently own the Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family graphics card.

What is the best I can upgrade to, or would I have to get a new motherboard to make it worth upgrading?

I'd say the best card without upgrading your power supply would be Radeon HD 7750. Second best would be HD 6670 GDDR5 and third best would be HD 6670 DDR3. You should choose whichever fits your budget.

Would this be fine in relation to DDR2 and my PCI slots? Thanks.

Yes it would. Video card memory has nothing to do with system RAM.
