My old setup was 2 monitors and the MSI card. I could watch a stream(movie/twitch) and play WoW at the same time and have no FPS loss or lag in anyway. I recently purchased another 480 (the nvidia one) and a 3rd monitor. Ive read all over that you cannot SLI and use all 3 monitors. Now i can browse the web and play WoW without any FPS loss...but if i start to watch a stream...my fps will drop from 60 to 15.
I have my GFXs in the first and 3rd slot with a SLI3 connector. I know im not able to run SLI with the 3rd monitor without a 3rd card (one of the cards need to be a slave.) I have 2X 295 cards sitting in my other PC (dont really use for anything besides browsing web). Would it be possible to run the 2 480s in SLI with one of the 295s as a monitor port only. i would have to bump the 480 to the 2nd slot and the 295 to the 3rd slot...then just SLI the 480s.
I heard the 480s can run pretty hot (ive seen it get up to 80c with medium fan speed...but was able to cool it down to 68-70 by kicking the fan to full) Would running the 2 480s that close to each other be a problem? Also my PSU handles the 2 480s perfectly fine right now. Would adding a 295 and using it only as a way to run my 3rd monitor affect it? Would i be able to "dumb down" the 295 so it uses minimal power?
id like to take full advantage of the 3 monitors without losing FPS and without having to buy a 3rd 480.
Also is it normal to lose that much FPS when having a stream open. I know the single card has to display 3 monitors...but FPS wise...i didn't think watching a stream would have that much effect on the FPS on WoW.
