Need Advice (For Gaming): fx 8350 + 7870 or i5 3470 + 7850

Hi everyone ,

I need advice on my CPU- GPU combo for my upcoming build. Mainly for gaming like BF3 , crysis 2 ,3 , Metro, Hitman, Alan wake, Borderlands and all the upcoming future games on the highest settings at 192x1080. I want to make it last for as long as possible.
Some advice would be really appreciated.

yeah lol u went from a fx with a 7870 or i5 and 7850, two diff cpu and gpu, to going 7870 and which cpu lol i5 is usually faster, but thats against a 3570k and the 8350, dont think there much difference performance from the 3470 but i know the 8350 is only a few dps off the i5, better gpu all the way tho

well overall for gaming+multi-threaded usage the 8350 is a beast, still levels a 3570k and close to 3770k for 200$ its a champ

Both are similarly priced where i live. are the latest games gonna use more cores? and how the cpu perform in crysis 3 ?

Get a 3470. Period.

If the majority use of your system is for gaming, the i5 3470 is a better choice. The FX-8350 has 8 cores but most games today don't even use 4. And that's where the i5-3470 is better.

If you have a motherboard that is already compatible with either CPUs, you might want to consider the performance:cost ratio and just go with the combo. The i5 3470 is better overall but it does not dominate everything over the FX-8350.

i wont use photoshop or video editing , nothing like that. im a student so its gaming and daily tasks.

Wont the upcoming games use more cores ??

Most probably not....i think 4 cores will be the max that gets loaded by games for quite sometime [there are already a few exceptions though].

do you mind specifying the exceptions. i just want something that will last for 4 years. how bad is the fx ?

yes games are be using more than 4cores, but in how much time depends, if you just want pure gaming get the i5 than, if u want to do mad multitasking than amd it is. easy choice.
