7950 - 45 FPS in MW3

i5-2500K @ 3.7 Ghz
ASUS Maximus Gene-Z
8GB DDR3 1600 Mhz
MSI Twin Frozr 7950 @ 1000/1575 (12.7 Beta Drivers)
Seasonic X759

I pretty much replicated the settings that Techspot did when they tested MW3 on various GPUs when it first came out.

AA: 4x
Refresh: 60 Hz
Vsync: Off
Shadows: Yes
Secular Map: Yes
Depth of Field: Yes
Ambient Occlusion: High Quality
Soften Smoke Effects: Yes
Bullet Impacts: Yes
Image Quality: Native
Texture Quality: Automatic

I am stuck at 43-45 FPS.

More about 7950
  1. I can't comment on why but something is going wrong there

Man you're killing me here, playing call of duty on a rig like that! Well whatever floats your boat I guess. Anyway.... have you tried on the current drivers (not beta ones), maybe that's causing your problem.

You don't say? Why would you even post if you have nothing useful to add?
  4. Undo the graphics card overclocking. If that doesn't help, check GPU usage with MSI afterburner.

I'm not even a big fan of MW3 or shooters in general but many of my friends play it. :bounce:

Other games like Skyrim and Arkham City hum along on this machine on beta drivers.

  6. I'll throw a dart at the board and see if it sticks or if I hit anything.

The game I primarily play online has settings for AF and AA in the sim. The eyefinity drivers also have AF and AA settings that can be used to override the settings in the sim. The graphics card drivers, in my experience, handle that stuff a lot better. You could try turning the AF/AA off in the settings and turning it on in the driver settings to see if that improves your performance.
  7. I have exactly the same VGA and beta drivers and I'm running the game at 2560x1600 at max quality/with 4AA...min 68, average 95, max 122 FPS.

At what resolution do you play? try running 3d mark and see if you got the same scores as before.

You my friend are nothing short of genius.
  9. Guess he's just trying to get points;-) Oops - guess that's what I'm doing. Like it was suggested - what is your gpu doing (what %) while playing?

    It's at

    99% GPU Load
    71 Celsius
    55% Fan Speed
    1086 MB usage.

Pretty much the same GPU strain as running the Arkham City Benchmark (I get good average FPS but I get a wide range on FPS from 7 to 168).

I think I can survive it, at least MW3 is still over 30 fps and steady for the most part.
  11. What is CPU load during MW3?
