Hello everyone, I have been reading this forum for awhile and decided to make an account. I'm planning on doing my first build pretty much strictly or gaming and a little web browsing. I have selected out some parts but I think the Phenom x4 ii 965 black might bottleneck a graphics card as powerful as the 7970. I would upgrade the CPU if i could but my budget is basically maxed out. What I want is the most bang for my buck and I don't know if going with the Phenom x4 will give me that. If I did use the Phenom I would try to overclock it to 4.0 ghz.

Do you guys think that this is the way to go or should I switch to a lower video card and faster processor? Say something like an FX-8120 or i5 and a 7950.

Here are my current parts, any suggestions are welcome.

overclock the x4, its still a great cpu, my friends x6 @3.2ghz is not unbalanced to a 670gtx, and in gaming a quad core is prefered so the top end amd gpu shouldnt get bottlenecked once overclocked.

You should just download HWinfo64, loads sensors only, reset yourvalues and enter a game. Once you exit the game you can view your average gpu, cpu, and mem usage to determine your bottleneck. It will give you max and even average usage in percentages, very useful for determining if you have a bottleneck.
