HDMI only

I have PC with following configuration.
core i3 2120,DH61WW,4GB RAM,windows 7 32bit
Graphics card Radeon HD5450 .

I want to connect my PC to LCD TV using only HDMI cable.
so is it automatically detect hdmi mode,or i have to use vga cable to get display and then switch mode to HDMI.
because with only HDMI i am not getting any display.
