I am helping my son set up a minecraft server.

we need to do port forwarding but do not know what to enter in the local IP (I assume the router IP)Local port and public port. Any advice?

you need to assign a static IP to the server.
then to enter that IP as Local IP in the port forwarding screen.
enter the number for Local and Public port.
read the instructions for which ports need to be opened.
