I built my budget $500 rig about 2 weeks ago and my friend (since Junior High) has to 1 up me. His budget is $1K and will be gaming mostly. BF3, MW3, Black Ops, Skyrim & Black Ops 2 soon. He won't ever go X Fire but he will be OC'ing the CPU & GPU. No SSD, he doesn't feel it necessary.

This is the best I could come up with: $1013 after rebates

He already has Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit, Keyboard, Mouse & he has a 23" LCD (LED back lit) monitor so he won't be pushing more than 1920x1080 in games.

I think this is the best setup he can get but I'm curious to see what you guys think.

Edit: Had to swap out the Vapor X 7970 because they were out of stock.

If you are not intending 2nd GPU, you don't need 700w, and preferably not that one. You only really need in the 500's. If using HD7970, there may be something to be said for 600w. Suggest PC Power & Cooling Silencer MKlll 600w. That's a decent PSU, and modular.
Whilst the HD7970 is a better GPU, overall, over a broad range of games, the GTX 670 is cheaper, and is actually better, in some specific games, including Skyrim, but most particularly BF3, for which it is much better value than HD7970. I'm not necessarily saying "change", but something to consider. The GTX670 also has lower power consumption, so you could use something like XFX 550w, for PSU.

You have a board in that build meant for dual cards, yet a psu that falls short of pushing two of those cards. Your looking at 850w for dual 7970's which is going to change up your budget. You can go a single card set up (no second card in the future) and get the $85 Asrock Z75 Pro3 and a solid 550w psu or your going to have to drop down your vid card some and get a psu that will push two of whatever. That's if you plan on staying within your budget. BF3 was coded to take advantage of dual cards so that's something to think about.

Alright, let me make some changes. No Crossfire. He doesn't want to run dual GPU's.

Edit: Swapped out the RAM, PSU & Mobo and now it's $978.

I went with the ASRock Z75 Pro3, G.Skill Ares 2x4gb DDR3 1600 & an OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W PSU.

That all looks OK, although I would still prefer PC Power & Cooling, rather than OCZ, for PSU, even if it is a bit more.
