My sub woofer port not working !

i am using a ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME - Z motherboard. It ahs a 7.1 surround sound capability. ATM i am only using front right and front left speakers. And i am trying to use my subwoofer. The problem i am having is when i plugin the sub woofer in the orange sub woofer port and play music via itunes, windows media player, or youtube. My sub woofer will not produce any sound. I have looked into it more and have the sound configuration set to 5.1 surround sound. still my sub woofer wont work. I have the audio driver updated too.

I7 2600k 3.4 ghz
NVIDIA 660 superclocked
ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME - Z
WD SSD 120 Gb
WD HHD 3000 GB (3TB)
16 GB DDR3 RAM 1666ghz

I am an extreme gamer And love dubstep so as you can see this is very important to me :3
and this computer is about $3000 so i want it all working

It is most probably not a computer problem, don't worry.
Go to sound; Playback devices; Select speakers and then check all configurations and properties... In configure do a test. If your sub works then it is windows media player (and itunes) that have some kind of problem
