660ti and an SSD or a gtx 670?

Last response: in Graphics & Displays

With the 660ti coming out in a few days, and my budget being around $400. I was wondering if I should get the 660ti when it gets released, and since its going to be priced at $299(more than likely) I would also be able to buy a 128gb crucial m4 ssd. Obviously we don't really know how well the 660ti will perform compared to the 670, but assuming it is a 10-15% decrease in performance, do you think that getting an ssd with a 660ti will be a better choice than a 670? I just want to be able to play games at max settings with a 1920x1080 monitor at 60 hertz. (And of course I would overclock the 660ti)

Other information: I currently have a 4 year old 320gb hdd, it is plenty of space for me, but it is really slow. If I were to get an ssd I would put my operating system on there and a few games. Also, here are my specifications:

i5 3570k
8gig of ram
windows 7 64bit

I would go for an all around system upgrade and get the 660ti and SSD. The 660ti looks to be better than the HD7870 I run, and I play almost all of my games at max settings. If you keep the AA modest then you will definitely max out your games. With max AA settings for some of the more intense titles like BF3, expect about 45FPS+.

That's just my $.02

I would wait for the benchmarks to come out. We still don't know what 10-15% would mean in terms of gaming performance. If the decrease doesn't make a difference with 1080p gaming, then it would obviously be a great choice. However if it means that you'll have to put your settings on high instead of max, then maybe you'll need to get 670 and save up for the SSD

Personally I'd go with the 670, it will do more for your gaming. That & we don't know what the 660ti is capable of yet. SSD's are awesome but from just a gaming stance you will get more from getting a 670, especially when pairded with that nice processor you have.

yeah. its better off with a 660ti and a samsung 830 128gb SSD. the 660ti should be around 300-340 depending on the brand and the heatsink

heres the link to the samsung 830( the samsung 830 is faster than the m4 and just as reliabe)

This is true, the Samsung 830 is better than the M4. I'm not sure on pricing but if they are within $10 I would get the Samsung. I actually got the 64GB 830 for a boot drive and it's actually a noticeable improvement from my Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 120GB.

Yeah, I think we've all seen the benchmarks from Tweaktown on the 660ti, if you haven't, here they are:

(Be sure to read the whole article, it's several pages)
It looks promising, and even though the SSD wont make your games run faster, I think the 25 or less second boot and reboots are worth it. Along with the snappiness of your browsers and SSD installed APPs. I vote 660ti and SSD.

of course given that the chronos uses asynchronous nand. i have the chronos deluxe 240gb. uses toggle nand instead which is much better

The answer to this question depends as much on your preferences as it does on how good the 660 Ti is. An SSD is great, but it's all about load times. Putting aside booting up the computer and starting up a game, the only difference between an SSD and an HDD in most games is the delay that you occasionally get when loading a level. And it's not like SSDs eliminate that; they reduce it. So in terms of gaming, you have to consider whether you care more about framerate or about the longer load time that will occasionally arise. I'm not trying to suggest that there is a single right answer by putting the question that way. But just keep in mind what the SSD will and won't do.
