So I'm planning to get an i7 3770k and I'm looking for an affordable motherboard and a cooler that can at least get me to a stable 4.2ghz oc.

Solution
Yeah, i'm 4.83 (105*46) 1.35V so you'll be easily reaching 4.2+

P8Z77-V LX is one of the more affordable quality board so you'll never have trouble and the Hyper 212 is a beast for this low price ^^

Some guys on here recommended me a Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 and I am VERY happy with it. Actually lots of people here will tell you the same too. GREAT value. And I can tell you Im stable at 4.8GHz currently and just started. I use a Corsair H100 cooler.

With air cooled you can get up to 4.2ghz. Especially with that cooler. Also, when overclocking as I dont know if you're new to it or not. Dont just get and it and then OC it to 4.2Ghz. Slowly start working your way towards it. And stress test for about 15-30 mins. Some people will say longer but I do it for about 4-5 passes in prime and go higher.

Yeah its fine. That motherboard is one of the top selling z77 boards. And I have that same cooler and it works wonders for me.
