Monitor is "scrambled"

I have a Asus 22" LCD which has been for a few days having problems with certain colors mainly the red color. any thing red at all appearing on the screen has very small purple and green strips on it. this has been going on for a few days, and today whole horizontal lines of the screen are scrambled, its hard to explain but the closest thing to it is as if there is a signal but the signal is bad. this mainly happened after I plugged in a mic.

I tried the PC on a different monitor and is working fine so its not that. Ive also tried different cables. does that mean this monitor is finished?

I don't know what plugging in a mic would have to do with a monitor unless it was a laptop with some sort of connection issue. Have you tried a different VGA/DVI cable?

If you tried another monitor, and it is OK, then the problem is obviously with the monitor since everything else(pc, cables, video card) has been ruled out.

Monitors can die really randomly, I had one die on me not to long ago after switching from the VGA port to the DVI port because I couldn't pick the right resolution while using VGA, now I know it's probably because it was toast.

Yes, Ive tried VGA/DVI, still had the issue, strangely its gone now, i really hope it stays that way.
