Although I'm fairly familiar with computer's, I have never really done any DV editing, and my parents gave me a JVC DV camcorder for xmas to make movies of my daughter and so on. I have Ulead Video Studio 5 (which I understand is easy to use for beginners) and have had some problems trying to burn small video clips on to CDR's in the VCD format.
After the video has been rendered, it runs fine on my puter from file, but can't initialize in Windows Media Player on a disc, which I would like to use becuase most people that have a computer have Windows Media Player. My question is what format is an all around good one for rendering the movie in so that people that don't know much about computers can put in the drive and play without codec's or plug in's. Any tips or comments will be appreciated. Thanks

if i am not wrong, the Windows Media Player can not play the VCD directly, but it still can play the VCD's DAT file.
i think you should burn the videos into the CD-R using any video type that the Windows Media Player can recognised, and if you under WindowsXP,the OS will searching the CD-R for any video it can played automaticlly, and the OS will lauch the Windows Media Player.
another, upgrade your Media Player to 8.0 or later(let it download some plug-ins and can play DVD),at the same time burn your videos into Mini-DVDs on the CD-R,you can using Media Player also.
i just using both of the two methods to distribute the CD-R/RW to others.
Most simple way will be to convert the files into Mpg1 as Media player support it with out the need for any extra plugIns like DviX or such.
If you can't export directly to Mpg1 you can use the free TmpgEnc from www.tmpgenc.com
