My brother is currently saving up to build his first desktop, but he's unsure about which system he wants. Either he spends his money on an Intel Core i7 2700K Sandy Bridge or he goes with AMD Fx-8150 (the one I have) and spends the rest of his money on the other hardware components.

Basically, he wants either of the following (he is a moderate gamer, but he does play Battlefield):

Combo A
1) INTEL Core i7 2700K with
2) HDD Hard drive

OR

Combo B
1) AMD Fx-8150 with
2) $120 saved on an SSD.

The graphics card and RAM will be set constant between the two desktops.

Which should he go with? I'm on the Fx-8150 right now but I've been using Intel's Core 2 Quad for the past 4 years and I can't tell a difference in performance, although I don't game a lot.

The 2700K is an all around more powerful CPU than the 8150 (it costs a lot more, it should), but for gaming, you need nothing more than an i5 as the i7s only difference is HyperThreading, which games don't use and probably never will.

You don't notice the difference in performance, nor will you really for daily PC tasks, it doesn't take a lot of CPU to run facebook you know?
